The Benefits of a Self Hypnosis Program

In today’s hectic, metric oriented world it is becoming increasingly difficult to disengage from the daily demands on modern life to find and take the time to look within and find and develop our true potential. Our lives seem to be run by schedules. We must rise in time to get ready for work, get the kids off to school, commute to work, spend eight or more hours on the job, return home, help with chores, homework, dinner, maybe relax and watch TV and then go to bed and hopefully sleep well. Then the next day is the same and the pattern just continues to the point that we lose the connection with our inner self. In essence, we only use ten percent of our mind’s potential on a daily basis. The rest is used by our subconscious mind to tend to our autonomic needs. However, if we can tap into our subconscious mind we can actually unlock hidden potential in our inner self. Self hypnosis is the key to unlocking that potential that we can use it to improve various facets of our lives. The results could change our outlook on life in general and approach to events and factors in our daily lives such as habits, relationships, phobias, self confidence, stress, quality of sleep, etc.

So here you are in this endless cycle, much like a hamster in a cage running on its wheel. In order to start to work on discovering your potential, you must get off the wheel and make time for oneself on a daily basis to relax and break out of the daily chaos for a period of time where you can be peaceful, calm and relaxed, so achieving a self hypnotic state is possible. For most people this will be a huge challenge. It is easier said than done. If you want some quiet and mental peace of mind in your life you must create the time and find a place. As I have told many a friend and client, “You need to learn to take care of #1 first before you can help anyone else.”

To learn self hypnosis, there are many fine books, tapes and MP3’s available. You could also contact a local hypnotherapist to help train you. Personally, I used all four sources at one point in time or another. My current technique is a blend of a method on an old LP record I recorded to MP3 and the method taught by a hypnotherapist. The technique you finally choose is a deeply personal choice. No one has a monopoly on the “best” technique. Keep in mind that self hypnosis is an altered state of mind that you experience naturally everyday of your life, when you day dream, before and after entering the sleep stage and even when you drive. The benefits that can be gained from a disciplined program of self hypnosis cover a wide range. I must point out that self hypnosis, in and of itself, will not automatically achieve these benefits. You must truly want to succeed and accept the hypnotic suggestions. I have listed out some of the more common uses of self hypnosis.

  1. Relaxation and Stress Relief. You can reduce or totally eliminate your stress level with self hypnosis. Relaxation is a natural by-product of self hypnosis. This is the easiest advantage or benefit to achieve from a self hypnosis program.
  2. Build Confidence. With self hypnosis you can use the imaginative power of your mind to visualize in situations where you currently lack confidence and seeing yourself being successful in those situations, such as public speaking or making a presentation. Having a positive experience subconsciously will help bolster your confidence in real life situations.
  3. Altering or Removing Behaviors. Many people have certain behaviors that they would like to change or eliminate. Since many of these behaviors are spontaneous or automatic in nature, Self hypnosis is an excellent tool to make suggestions directly to the subconscious mind to alter or eliminate the behavior.
  4. Weight Loss. This is another very common use for self hypnosis and is very popular on commercial tapes and MP3 recordings. Being overweight is reaching epidemic proportions and self hypnosis can leverage the power of the subconscious mind to help one loss weight.
  5. Quit Smoking. I quit smoking 30 years ago using self hypnosis without any weight gain. I have not smoked since. There are many self hypnosis recordings on the market to help anyone who is serious about quitting smoking.
  6. Removing Negativity. Besides stress, negativity, in my opinion, is the most serious flaw in our self image and our subconscious mind’s belief system about things in the world in general. If you think you can’t do something, you will not succeed. How easy is it to agree with the negative opinions of others? How do your negative attitudes, thoughts and feelings impact your relationships with family, friends and co-workers? This negatively does damage your quality of life. The first step is to recognize your negativities and then use self hypnosis to reprogram your subconscious mind to eliminate the negative beliefs and replace them with positive ones.
  7. General Life Improvement. Self hypnosis is a great tool to use for self improvement and a healthier life in many areas such as memory enhancement, increased energy, better sleep, pain relief, decreased blood pressure and a better outlook on life just to name a few.

In summation, self hypnosis is a very powerful tool that is not difficult to learn and to use. The benefits are definitely worth the time and effort to learn and practice the self hypnotic technique that works best for you. You just need to make the commitment to yourself and set aside some time during your busy day for #1. Self hypnosis can help you reach your full potential. In addition, self hypnosis is relatively inexpensive compared to traditional treatments. Please visit UsingSelfHypnosis.com for more information on using self hypnosis.

Can You Lose Control In Hypnotic Trance?

If you are considering hypnosis, then this is an exciting time for you. I have run a clinical practice with advanced hypnotherapy in Cardiff for several years. And clients usually have questions about hypnotherapy. They are curious to know why hypnosis is different, and how it can help.

Wherever you are, your concerns and questions are probably the same:

  • What is hypnotherapy?
  • Will I be in control?
  • Will “it” work for me?
  • Is it safe?

You could write a whole book on these. So for now, let’s look at them in turn.

Hypnotherapy is the therapeutic use of hypnosis to create change. More specifically, “trance” is the fixation of attention. Have you ever been a million miles away? I remember watching the TV show “Lost” and being completely “lost” wondering what was going on. I was totally absorbed in the characters and plot. When I watched an episode, nothing could have awoken me from that “TV Trance”.

In fact I am still in a trance, trying to figure out just what happened in the final season.

When our first baby was born, I was literally mesmerized: I would stare at him for hours without being distracted. Cute babies are very hypnotic. They absorb all your attention for long periods of time, no matter what problems you might otherwise be facing.

That’s all trance is: the fixation of attention.

However, in hypnosis I use a specialised form of trance that gets you even more focused. In this state, you are able to literally affect the way you think and feel.

Hypnosis helps you enter this state where your focus is absorbed on the outcome you have. A hypnotist typically uses several techniques to help you change. These might include:

  1. Positive suggestions
  2. Visualisation or mental rehearsal
  3. Bringing back to life happy, positive feelings or a feeling of increased motivation (”Revivification”)

You are already doing all of these all the time anyway. Every time you have a thought or engage in self-talk, you are programming your mind. That is why you are entirely safe with hypnosis. A good hypnotist works with you to find out the problem, and how you want to be different. He then scripts new suggestions for you so you, in effect, say them to yourself.

That also means that a hypnotist can never make you think, do or be anything you don’t want to. Sometimes people think that they can come to see me and I will push a switch to make them stop smoking. Not so!

What I can do is work with a person who is motivated to change. I help them “rescript” the way they talk and feel, so they can faster achieve their goal.

Any form of therapy is a relationship. And the degree of change that you experience is the degree to which you engage with that therapy. It is vital to understand this because a hypnotherapist wants to help you help yourself. And the only way to do that is to approach the therapy in a spirit of positive expectation and participation.

One of my Virtual Gastric Band weight loss hypnotherapy clients e-mailed me recently to tell me, “I am surprised. I found I was eating less and finding it easy to resist chocolate. But it seemed natural to me. I thought I was going to be a robot!”

You are not going to become a robot, but you can increase your belief and motivation to make change.

Hypnosis is about getting into a state of concentration, and a hypnotist can help you do that. In that state you can consistently access the latent resources you had all along to solve your problem. You tap into your inner strength. It means that you will learn to have much more control over your mind, over your breathing and over how calm and relaxed you feel.

Sometimes a person calls me and is anxious about hypnosis and they also are anxious to change. I say to them, “Look, I can teach you how to relax deeply if you are willing to learn. It means you will finally be in control of how you feel. You can even learn to improve the way you feel and take more positive actions. Would you like to have more control than you’ve ever had before?”

Hypnotherapy is about putting you back in control. If you have a fear, habit or addiction that is frustrating you or ruining your life, then consider hypnotherapy. Cardiff is where my practice is based, and there are other excellent qualified hypnotherapists all over the world.

Hypnosis was recognised and approved by both the British Medical Association (BMA) and the American Medical Association (AMA) way back in the 1950s. In 1957, Pope Pius XII even endorsed it for medical use. So it has a proven record, and unlike many drugs today, hypnosis has no known negative side-effects.

One last thing: hypnosis is very similar to day-dreaming and, as such, is very safe. The most important consideration is that you e-mail or call the hypnotherapist you want to work with and chat with them. All therapists specialise in certain areas, and you won’t necessarily feel rapport with all of them. So you need to call up and find someone that you feel 100% comfortable with.

In my Hypnotherapy Clinic in Cardiff, I have seen hundreds of people change with trance. The clients that change fastest always have a powerful reason to make a shift. So take a moment now to consider this powerful question, “Why am I motivated to change and take action now?”

Life Between Lives Regression

You may have never heard of a life between lives regression, or LBL, but it can be a powerful tool to help you find out more about yourself, your purpose, and the meaning of your own life. By working with the right consulting hypnotist, you can see several benefits from LBL.

A life in between lives is the time you spent as a soul, before you had your current physical body, and were simply a part of the spiritual world. To get from the spiritual world to your current physical state, you had to forget everything that you knew and experienced in the spiritual world. While you may not remember your life as a soul, your experiences during that time are stored in your subconscious mind – and they play a role in your current behavior.

During a life between lives regression, you are in a deep hypnotic trance – usually for about 3 or 4 hours – and are taken back in time. Normally, an LBL starts with you accessing memories of your childhood, and then works backwards to your time in the womb, to your past lives, and to your time between lives. At each stage, you will likely experience scenes and memories that your conscious mind does not remember.

During your LBL, you might meet your “Council of Elders”, or the other souls that have incarnated with you over the years. Usually, a group of souls spend many lifetimes together. Your group has played a role in each of your lives in an effort to help you develop and evolve. Good or bad, the people who have played the biggest roles in your current life likely have played a role in your spiritual existence as well.

But what can you really get out of an LBL? Aren’t you better off not knowing about prior experiences that could be painful?

No. In fact, it’s just the opposite.

Studying your life in between lives can give you powerful information that can help you thrive. A successful LBL can:

  • Help you unlock powerful memories, which can help you understand why you chose to live in your current body. By learning more about your past, you will realize why you are here, and potentially what the meaning of your life is.
  • Help you emerge from your trance even more committed to living up to your life’s purpose. Reliving even the bad memories can help identify the reasons you are here, in your current life. Instead of being sad or angry about experiences in your soul life, you can feel a renewed sense of commitment.
  • Help you evolve. By leaning more about your past and the souls who played a major role in it, you can have healthier relationships in your current life. And, you can be better-equipped to handle any adversity that comes your way.

Self Hypnosis and Fractionation

One of the least applied secrets of self hypnosis is the principle of fractionation.

What is fractionation?

Fractionation is the process of moving in and out of an experience in order to go deeper into the experience.

Most physical trainers know to have their students go into a stretch, then come back out, then go into the stretch a little bit deeper. In many classes (karate, yoga, etc.), this is done a minimum of 3 times to help the student sink deeper into the stretch.

Stretching your mind and your emotions works in a similar way, but in this realm you do not have to be concerned with physical limitations. You can use fractionation to mentally and emotionally stretch yourself as far as you want to go.

Why learn fractionation?

If you want to increase relaxation, focus, emotional intelligence, or any trait, belief, attitude, etc. that is based off your mind or your emotions… one of the quickest, easiest, and safest ways is with fractionation.

If you really want to open up and expand your range of experience, fractionation is one of the best ways to do it.

How can you start to practice fractionation right now?

Fractionation can be done with virtually any emotion or mind-body state, but it is easy (and highly useful) to start with relaxation. Deep relaxation feels good and it brings a powerful level of clarity as well.

  1. Find a quiet place where you can sit and relax peacefully.
  2. Close your eyes… take deep, slow breaths… and focus in on the relaxation throughout your body. Gently pour all your awareness into the feelings of relaxation. Enjoy the relaxation. State to yourself: “Every time I go into a state of relaxation, I can go even deeper than I went the last time.”
  3. Now open your eyes and imagine stepping out of the state for a moment… imagine yourself stepping back from that deep relaxation… imagine yourself observing the deep relaxation and noticing just how deep it is from a 3rd person perspective.
  4. Now close your eyes again and step back into the relaxation even deeper, as you breathe deeply and slowly. Notice how much deeper you can now go as opposed to the first time. Remind yourself that every time you go into a state of relaxation, you can go even deeper than you went before.
  5. Repeat this as many times as you like. You can spend just a few seconds, or several minutes sinking into relaxation every time you go in, come back out, then go back in a little bit deeper.

There are almost endless ways in which you can practice fractionation everyday. All you have to do is identify the state of mind (or belief, attitude, emotion, etc.) that you want to be able to experience more deeply, then practice stepping in and out of it. As you do, notice how you go a little deeper every time.
