How To Perform Self Hypnosis

Good hypnotherapists are quite difficult to find and are usually expensive to hire due to their many years of learning and experience. However there is a way round this. Not a lot of people know this, but a hypnotherapist merely guides a person into trance – they help them achieve a trance state. It is up to the subject to actually make this happen. This means that it is perfectly possible to hypnotize yourself.

A trance state is actually a very natural state of mind that most of us fall into several times a day. It is best described as a daydream like state – not some weird zombie like state that the media often portray it as. It is like when you are deeply engrossed in a book or TV. It also often happens when driving. You may realise that you drove several miles and can barely remember the journey. You drive safely, but cannot remember doing it as you tranced out. The reason you still drive safely was that your conscious mind was tuned down, and you were using your more intuitive subconscious mind to drive.

A hypnotic trance is a means to quieten your conscious mind, allowing you to better communicate with your subconscious mind, which is the part that drives us, holds our beliefs, habits and fears. You can talk to a smoker about how smoking is bad for them, and them usually whole heartedly agree. However they still continue to do it. This is because you have talked to them on a conscious level. Their conscious mind knows that it is a bad habit, but it is their subconscious mind which drives their urges. In a trance you can more easily talk to the subconscious part of the mind. This is why hypnosis is so effective in a therapeutic setting.

I will show you a very simple technique to get yourself into a trance.

Get yourself comfortable, either seated or led down, and make sure that you won’t be disturbed for at least half an hour. Close your eyes and take 20 slow deep breaths, saying to yourself the words ‘relax 1′, ‘relax 2′, ‘relax 3′ and so on, on each out breath. You will notice how you feel deeper relaxed with each number you count. Do this until you reach 20.

Now imagine yourself sliding down a dark tunnel that has a white spot in the distance. Spend a minute or two sliding down this tunnel. This white spot gets bigger and bigger as you slide closer and closer, until eventually you emerge into a pleasant place. It could be anywhere you choose, such as a secluded beach or a garden. Enjoy this haven for a few minutes, and try to visualise it as vividly as you can, using as many of your senses as you can. Use touch, smell and sound as much as you can.

Congratulations, you have entered a hypnotic trance. If done regularly, this technique will really help you in life. Many problems in life are as a result of excessive stress and not enough relaxation. It can effect your energy levels, productivity, mood, motivation, happiness, and even your immune system. Almost every area of your life will improve if you spend just 10-15 minutes per day doing this. Try it every day for a week and see what a positive impact it can make to your life.

The Benefits of Hypnosis Scripts

Just about anyone who has ever had an interest in hypnosis has run across hypnosis scripts. But what value does a script really yield? With thousands of different scripts on hundreds of potential subjects even the most cursory review gets overwhelming pretty quickly. But there are some specific situations where hypnosis scripts can be highly valuable.

For the professional hypnotherapist, scripts come in handy in one of two ways. First, if you prefer reading to memorization, you might just use scripts for as long as you practice hypnotherapy. Strong, confident readers might prefer a script. Second, when faced with a request from a client or patient for hypnosis covering a topic you are not familiar with, you could certainly review a script just to make sure you are doing your due diligence before just plowing in.

For everyone else, scripts provide a valuable look into how professional hypnotherapists structure sessions that include deep hypnotic trance. Understand, however, that not every script will cover the necessary induction and deepening required to be effective. For the most part, you will need a certain level of mastery of a number of basic hypnosis skills before a script will be of any use whatsoever.

And that’s the catch about hypnosis scripts really. Before you will be able to use them, you will need to be able to hypnotize someone. Once you learn certain techniques for induction and deepening you will probably be fairly familiar with what you should be doing during the session anyway – and at that point a script may become less necessary than you thought.

However, considering the thousands of potential topics you could cover during hypnosis, it is well worth your time to at least read through a script before you begin. Many professionals will write their own scripts or at least notes, but with scripts so readily available making your own is an exercise in reinventing the wheel. There are so many well done scripts available for free or in packages for purchase that it hardly makes sense to write them from scratch. You will certainly want to make notes or minor changes so that your own personal preferences and personality – or even techniques shine through, but a good script can save you loads of time.

Like most things, not all hypnosis materials are created equal. Be sure you are getting your information from a reputable source, much the same way you might do if you needed a standard contract form for a business. Not every contract you can get on the internet was actually written by a lawyer. And just like a legal contract, you might very well be better off with hiring a lawyer to write one for your specific situation.

So in the end, knowing if or when a hypnosis script is the right thing has a lot to do with who is asking. But for the most part they are a valuable tool for nearly anyone to use during hypnosis. As long as you get your script from a hypnosis professional, you will probably find that they can save you time and effort. If you are relatively new to hypnosis, you should definitely practice with scripts for some time until you become fluid with the process. For the pro, scripts can still provide valuable insight in various

Hypnotize Yourself To Sleep

Ask anyone to pretend to be a hypnotist and you can be fairly certain that they’ll look you in the eyes and say (possibly in a foreign accent!) “You are falling asleep”. Although a hypnotic trance is not actually a form of sleep, it is a very similar state. And because of its ability to induce deep relaxation, hypnosis can be a very effective treatment for insomnia.

Insomnia has a wide variety of causes (for example anxiety, pain, and some medications) but it may also occur for no reason at all. Inability to sleep, in these cases, is just a habit. It may have started at a time when the patient was anxious about something and the insomnia may have added to the anxiety. So, even when the original cause has been resolved, the insomnia continues – the insomnia causes anxiety which causes insomnia. If this vicious circle can be broken, the patient will once again be able to sleep normally and, in this sort of case, hypnosis can produce dramatic results. The relaxation it produces will help to relieve the anxiety. And the therapist may give post-hypnotic suggestions that, even if the patient doesn’t sleep very much, he or she will not feel exhausted during the day – which is perfectly possible because a lot of the exhaustion is due to the anxiety and the resulting muscle tension.

In the moments before we go off to sleep naturally, we are in a state that is very similar to a hypnotic trance. So teaching patients how to put themselves into a trance can give them a valuable tool which will help them to bridge the gap between wakefulness and sleep. Drifting from hypnosis into sleep is a perfectly natural phenomenon and it’s not unusual for patients who are practising self-hypnosis to fall asleep if they are feeling tired – and it’s not unknown for an over-tired patient to fall asleep during a hypnotherapy session in the consulting room!

In cases where insomnia is due to some underlying anxiety, the causes of this can be investigated and frequently alleviated using hypnosis. Nightmares, too, are susceptible to treatment, with suggestions being given to the patient’s subconscious mind that will make the events in the dreams less frightening.

Unlike sleeping tablets, hypnosis is not an instant cure. The patient will need to practise self-hypnosis regularly until the ability to slip from waking into a hypnotic trance into sleep is perfected. But, also unlike sleeping tablets, the great advantage of this method is that it’s perfectly safe to use a second time, or even a third, should the patient wake during the night. And, of course, there will be no unpleasant after-effects in the morning.

Persuasion Tactics With NLP Hypnosis

It is well known that, when used properly, hypnotic “states” can be used to create radical changes to a person’s personality, or even reveal abilities and skills they never recognized before. But a new type of hypnosis has emerged over the last several decades; a collection of psychological “tools” known collectively as NLP (neurolinguistic programming).

NLP hypnosis continues to gain support within the mental health and self-help communities, and is increasingly being used by individuals “on themselves” to overcome phobias, “blocks” or limitations and reach their goals.

NLP techniques can be effective for many different problems. For example, to remedy fears, overcome shyness, or even to stop bad habits like over-eating or using tobacco or cigarettes.

But even though NLP takes advantage of hypnotic states to make these positive changes, many NLP practitioner’s claim that “hypnosis” does not actually exist, at least not in any formal sense. But there are “hypnotic states,” which are quite common and experienced by most people fairly often.

An example of this would be when you catch yourself “zoning out” on the job or when you are bored. You just seem to mentally “drift off” for a little while, but are actually experiencing a type of (competely normal) hypnotic state. Your conscious mind becomes distracted and “detached” in a manner of speaking, and when that happens you are operating primarily at the unconscious level. In other words, you are literally in a subtle type of hypnotic trance.

NLP takes advantage of these naturally occurring phenomena; and what really sets apart NLP “hypnosis” is that trained practitioners can skillfully use your own normal hypnotic states to help alter your personality and habits in positive ways.

There are a broad range of NLP techniques that can help achieve these results and the concept is quite straightforward: to make use of our (normally ignored) natural hypnotic states to enable clients to change stubborn habits or overcome phobias and other issues.

NLP hypnotherapy is usually done “covertly,” which means that the client is not normally aware of the exact techniques that are being used — or sometimes even IF any techniques are being used. In this sense, it is a type of “positive manipulation” which can be used to help clients reach their goals (whatever they may be).

Skilled NLP hypnotists can appear to be doing nothing important at all; perhaps just talking casually with a client about some everyday matter. Meanwhile, under the surface, they are presenting useful suggestions and embedded commands to the client’s unconscious mind. Suggestions and commands that can change their outlook profoundly for the better.

In fact, the more skilled the practitioner, the LESS they seem to be actually doing during sessions. But the results of NLP hypnosis by a skilled practitioner, can be absolutely amazing. For example, individuals with low self-esteem may suddenly find themselves feeling very comfortable asserting themselves, without really understanding what (if anything) has changed.

NLP hypnosis clients can discover feelings of self-respect,optimism, motivation, self-control and confidence that they never realized they possessed. They may also find that old unproductive habits seem to have weakened, or in some cases, they may not recall ever having the habit at all! Such is the power of the human mind.
